ATTACK OF THE HANDSOME YOUNG MAN

Hah, Deviantart doesn't let you name your pieces in Japanese of any kind. Let's pretend the title is 襲う美少年. (My sister's trying to learn Japanese, so I'm in a kanji sort of mood lately.) “襲う美少年” is the “handsome young man” part of the infamous 新たなる展開/ATTACK OF THE HANDSOME YOUNG MAN. Which Google Translate says could also be translated “SWOON OF THE HANDSOME YOUTH,” so maybe it was a pun all along.

This is a dumb little chibi I drew to submit to Takahashi--another fan (sliferthewhydidigeta) is putting together letters, art, etc. in a book to give to him when he visits Comic Con! I'm having trouble with the letter (so much to include!) so I thought I'd do this to put in with it.

It's not a masterpiece or anything, but hopefully someone thinks it's cute. I've been having trouble with my art lately--seems kind of pointless when I see so much amazing work online, especially when I rarely spend the effort to even lineart my drawings, and /especially/ since I barely ever sit down and do any actual art. Doesn't seem like there's anything worth drawing that's within my skill set, even though I know practice is what I need to change that. But Illustrator chibis are something I used to do that never looked too bad, so I thought I'd return to something familiar. (I can only do these on my mom's computer, so I only do this when I visit home in Illinois... Feels like high school again, man.)

I stuck to cel-style shading for the most part, but I decided to act like a sane artist and do the colouring in Photoshop for once instead of Illustrator. So those lines aren't quite as smooth but it gave me a bit more freedom.

Oh, and I used a palette-generating site for the first time (I don't have a good eye for colour).
